Accessibility Checker: Ally

What is an accessibility checker, and what does it do?

Accessibility checker (Ally) is a tool that helps improve the accessibility of digital materials and content. It is available on all course sites in CourseWorks and will also be available for all websites soon.

As content is uploaded by faculty, an indicator is displayed, providing an at-a-glance view of the level of accessibility of the file.

Clicking an indicator provides additional information about how to increase the accessibility of the file. The accessibility checker also allows students to download alternative accessible formats.

How does it work?
  • This tool will automatically check course materials and provide a score.
  • The tool will also generate accessible alternatives to your original document, including audio, ePub, electronic braille, tagged PDF, and HTML for viewing on mobile devices.

For files with low to high scores, Ally provides the instructor with information about the issues and gives a step-by-step guide on how to fix them. If you need assistance improving the accessibility of a file (e.g., uploading, editing, remediating), email [email protected].
